MEETING INDEPENDENT POWER PRODUCER'S PEAK POWER NEEDS
A highly flexible, quick start, modular 5-unit solution is delivering 21 MW of reliable power
Background
As an Independent Power Producer (IPP), IMG Energy Solutions develops, constructs, operates and maintains distributed power generation assets that are located near pipeline gas production. It then sells the produced power into the PJM regional transmission organization - one of the world's largest competitive wholesale electricity markets. Its search to meet fast start, flexible power requirements with high efficiency, cost effective, lower EPC risk power solutions led IMG to INNIO Group's Jenbacher modular solution.
A Compelling Power Solution
IMG's Wolf Run power plant in Wilmont Township in Bradford County, PA, consists of five modular 4.2MW Jenbacher J624 integrated solution units powered with pipeline natural gas. INNIO Group's authorized Jenbacher distributor NES-WES, supplied the Jenbacher technology, providing package engineering as well as field re-assembly, and commissioning support during the project installation and startup. The 21 MW project only required four months of onsite construction and commissioning activites. In addition, NES-WES continues to provide planned and maintenance support for the plant.
Results
Commissioned and operational in mid-2019, the Wolf Run project allows IMG to capitalize on the wholesale market's need for fast start, flexible generation that not only responds to increasing intermittency driven by higher levels of renewable energy penetration, but also delivering resilient baseload power in times of elevated power demand. Additionally, the Jenbacher technology is capable of black start and island operation for added energy resilience.
This was IMG's first Jenbacher engine-based plant using modular engine packages. It was installed on schedule and on budget due in part to the blocks of the Jenbacher integrated solution.
